Homes in Stanley
What the houses here actually need.
In the older parts, around the church and the lanes off Aberford Road, houses are stone-built, deep and narrow, with solid walls and small back yards. They stay cool longer than a modern house at the start of a hot spell and then keep the heat once it is in, which is why so many of the Stanley calls we take come at the end of a warm week rather than the start of one. A single well-placed indoor unit in the room people actually sit in usually does more than trying to treat the whole house.
Down at Stanley Ferry and Lake Lock the housing is newer and often three storeys, which stacks the heat on the top floor. The canal-side plots are also windier and more exposed than people expect, so we site condensers where they are sheltered from the prevailing weather and specify units rated for it. Bottomboat and the estates towards Outwood are straightforward, standard installs — the usual one-day job.
Businesses in Stanley
Commercial air conditioning in Stanley: shops, salons, offices and workshops.
Along Aberford Road there is a steady run of small commercial premises — garages and workshops, shops, a couple of salons, offices above them — plus the pubs and eating places around Stanley Ferry marina. Hospitality is the demanding one: a kitchen pass or a busy bar puts out real heat, and we would rather size for that honestly at the survey than fit a unit that runs flat out every service.

Questions, answered straight
Air conditioning in Stanley — FAQs
Yes. Solid stone takes a clean core drill and the pipework can normally be run at low level to a condenser in the yard. We keep the outdoor unit off the front where we can and use a bracket or a plinth depending on what the yard gives us.
Mainly in siting. Those plots are more exposed and can be damper, so we pick a sheltered position, lift the unit clear of the ground on a plinth or bracket, and make sure the condensate drain runs somewhere sensible rather than onto a path that freezes.
It will heat the floor it is on very efficiently, and take the edge off the one above. For a whole three-storey house we would usually quote two indoor units on one outdoor unit — top floor and living floor — which is still a single-day install.
